Fine Linen Placemats made in Lake Como.  This version of the classic chinoiserie was inspired by Italian birds and flowers that we have in abundance all around the lake. These generously sized placemats are framed in with a hemstitch border. 

Placemats are known as "Sotto Piatti" (under the plates) or simply "Americani" in Italy.  Italian hosts & hostesses tend to use tablecloths, thus the name "Americani".  These are wonderful when a full tablecloth doesn't fit your entertaining mood.  The pattern is applied to high quality Italian linen locally using a special printing process.  Likewise, the sewing is done by a master "sarta" (tailor) right here in Lake Como.
