Italian hosts & hostesses tend to use tablecloths, versus placemats which are called "Americani" here in Italy.  A full tablecloth is traditional and creates a special entertaining mood whether casual or formal.  The large blooms are applied to high quality Italian linen using a special printing process.  Likewise, the sewing is done by a master "sarta" (tailor) right here in Lake Como.
