Fine Linen Placemats made in Lake Como.  Hydrangeas, which grow in abundance all around the lake, are applied in large blooms to high quality Italian linen using a special printing process. The petal colors are in a range of beautiful, muted blues with deep navy stem and leaves.  They are finished off with a hemstitch border.

Placemats are known as "Sotto Piatti" (under the plates) or simply "Americani" in Italy.  Italian hosts & hostesses tend to use tablecloths, thus the name "Americani" for the table linens  prefered by Americans.  These are wonderful when a full tablecloth doesn't fit your entertaining mood.  The sewing is done by a master "sarta" (tailor) right here in Lake Como.
