Fine Linen Placemats made in Lake Como.  Hydrangeas, which grow in abundance all around the lake, are framed in with a blue scallop border.  The petal colors are in a range of beautiful, muted blues with deep navy stem and leaves.

Placemats are known as "Sotto Piatti" (under the plates) or simply "Americani" in Italy.  Italian hosts & hostesses tend to use tablecloths, thus the name "Americani".  These are wonderful when a full tablecloth doesn't fit your entertaining mood.  The large blooms are applied to high quality Italian linen using a special printing process.  Likewise, the sewing is done by a master "sarta" (tailor) right here in Lake Como.
